Dale V. Stephenson Continues to Inspire the Next Generation of Lawyers
This past weekend, Ward Family Law Group attorney, Dale V. Stephenson, along with fellow attorney, Chris Nichols, coached two Broughton High School Mock Trial teams at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) High School Mock Trial Regional Competition, held in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Broughton’s teams consisted of fourteen students, eleven of whom had never participated in mock trial. In a “mock trial”, student teams present an entire trial to seasoned attorneys who serve as the presiding judge and jury. There are multiple rounds of competition. Students play the roles of lawyers and witnesses and must be prepared to present the plaintiff or defendant’s side in each round. This year’s case was a civil case involving cross claims of defamation. As the students present their case, they are scored based on their knowledge and understanding of their role, ability to present legal arguments, and public speaking.
Two of Dale’s senior students, who were part of last year’s state championship-winning team and who she has coached since they were freshmen, were selected by the judges for “Best Witness” and “Best Attorney” awards.
This is Dale’s sixth year coaching mock trial at Broughton. Her work with this program is invaluable and demonstrates Dale’s commitment to the legal profession and her community. Please join us in congratulating Dale and her students for this outstanding achievement. We are proud of Dale and her continued dedication to inspiring the minds of the next generation of lawyers.
